The Death of Empire
Thebes Publishing novel
Erimem said what no-one else wanted to. ‘We have to kill the Tsar’s daughter, Tatiana.’
In Russia, the Great War is costing Russia millions of lives, both at the Front and in the homes of the Russian people, who are starving and freezing. The war may also cost the Tsar his historical autocracy as the people demand reform.
The people's demand for change may also cost the life of Erimem's friend, Andy, who has gone missing, injured in a riot.
Back in 2018, time is apparently in flux. Returning to Revolutionary Russia, Erimem and her friends must keep history on track, no matter the cost...This was the first story Erimem appeared in after she left the Big Finish audio series. Straight from the moment she left the audios, I knew that I wanted to do more with the character. This book started as an issue of Commando, which I was going to write. Instead, I sent the Commando synopsis off to Beth Jones and asked her if she thought she could make an Erimem story out of it. We went back and forth a lot, shaping ths story and I probably put more into it than Beth was happy with (sorry, Beth) but hey, I'm the editor of the range, so I am the Lord God Almighty of the range - and my ego does enjoy that. One of the things we did for this story was watch Nicholas and Alexandra, a 1971 film about the last Tsar of Russia. I originally only watched because Tom Baker is in it as Rasputin but I recommended that Beth watch it to get a feel for the atmosphere of Russia, of the weather... we both read a lot of books to get a proper grip on the people involved and the people of Russia at that time. I assign stories a lot, often giving a shopping list of things I want in them. That's a pretty common way of working. Some people really struggle with it but I find it pretty easy and a very useful way of keeping a series going the way the editor wants it to go.
